A new initiative is launched! Dutch NGO SNV has asked us to report about SNV’s activities in Northern Kenya. Mohamed Samow, a talented young reporter from Kenya has made reports in text, photography and video. This online environment is given prominence on the home page of http://www.snvworld.org.
Mohamed is born in Wajir, close to the Somali border and very much suited to work on this assignment. He is from a pastoralist family. An a regular basis, Mohamed will visit remote places in Kenya to see what is happening.
His first reports is about the Samburu regio market. SNV has helped the farmers establish a weekly market closer to home. Not only do the farmers save on travel costs, they also avoid paying the middlemen, as now, the buyers come directly to them. This has helped increase their profits by nearly 50% per animal.
