Nick Kelso of Philips Lighting and his team have completed about two thirds of their journey from Cairo to Cape Town: 10 major events and 5 smaller ones. The journey is all about demonstrating how new developments in solar powered and sustainable lighting can ‘simply enhancing life with light’.
Africa Interactive covers their road trip, produced their website and is responsible for the videos. We made a video with Dutch football hero Ruud Gullit and our film maker Ken Odiambo made a portrait of athlete Lornah Kiplagat. A few days later the Roadshow arrived in Kampala, Uganda. Philips is committed to making affordable, high-quality, energy efficient lighting available to areas where it is most needed. “Offering new LED based, solar lighting solutions offers a triple-win: the lives of people in Africa will be generally improved, LEDs result in a very low carbon footprint and companies offering the right solutions stand to gain”, says Rudy Provoost, Executive Vice-President and Chief Executive Officer of Philips Lighting.
Philips is traveling through the heart of Africa to demonstrate these new developments. Nick Kelso describes in his blog post ‘The art of corporate bush camping’ how they are practicing what they preach. Shifting from ‘corporate mindset’ to ‘bush camp mind set’ every day. “ Flexibility of mind is simply enforced here. Welcome to the fascinating, inspiring and challenging world of the Philips Africa Roadshow!”
