A video we produced for our series ‘Spark Africa’ is selected as finalist in the ViewChange Online Film Contest. From the 137 entries a selection of 30 finalists in six categories were announced yesterday.
This competition is organized to find powerful new stories about the progress being made in achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). These short videos will be used to raise awareness, inspire action, and accelerate the worldwide movement to reduce extreme poverty by 2015.
On Monday September 20 the finalists of the contest were announced during a TEDxLondon event by contest judge Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. At final count the contest garnered 137 accepted entries, and films were submitted from 49 different countries! Two of the finalists from each category were determined by online voting.
Our selected video is about MYC4, a Danish initiative, where people can invest online in African companies and shows a Dutch investor who invested in a Rwandan silver smith. The director of this video is Africa Interactive’s Bertil van Vugt.
In October the panel of judges will decide who will win a $20,000 Grand Prize for the overall winner, and $5,000 to the winner of each category.
